“Five Minutes of Funk” by Whodini was released in 1984 and might be better known than the songs that have sampled it. The album it appeared on, Escape, would go on to be selected as one of The Source’s 100 Best Rap Albums Ever, in 1998.
It’s been sampled in multiple songs, including one by Mac Dre. But I was just reminded of a fun rendition, produced by none other than Dr. Dre, but this time for the 1997 album The Firm, featuring Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ, and Nature. “Five Minutes of Funk” was cleverly turned into “Five Minutes to Flush”.
